The history of making cakes goes a long way back. From the remains found in Swiss lake villages of crude cakes made from roughly ground grains, to today’s modern cakes that came about in the early 19th century following the Industrial Revolution, cakes are one of man’s favorite desserts.

Margie Miller and Keri Riedell, the owners and operators of Main Street Cake Company in Gloucester, are carrying on the tradition of baking and supplying the symbols of well-being, cakes, pies and cupcakes. "You name it, we can do it."

Margie and Keri worked together at the Wild Rabbit Café before deciding to venture into their own business (right next door), which began on Oct. 1, 2010. Speaking for the duo, Margie explained, "Keri is the true baker and has taught me a great deal. We gathered together recipes and are very pleased with how it has worked out.

"Come spring we hope to have some help so we can have more open hours and do some retailing daily. Right now we are here Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. We are working moms so work is done around our children’s school hours and activities. I have seven-year-old twins and Keri has three children ranging in ages six to 21 years old."
