Melissa Grace, general manager of Day’s Automotive & RV at Hayes, said the company, owned by her brother, Ryan Day, has seen a 75 percent increase in business since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

People are buying RVs to vacation in as a way to have their own separate quarters instead of staying in hotels and motels, she said, and with more RVs on the road, more repairs are needed.

“We’ve been booming with larger jobs, including engines and transmissions,” Grace said. “We haven’t slowed down at all.”

People are also having more repairs done on their automobiles and trucks, she said, positing that perhaps people had been holding off on repairs that they can have done because they’ve been “sitting at home.”

Grace said a lot of shops are similarly busy, and that it’s increasingly difficult to get the parts needed for certain repair jobs, including rooftop air conditioners for RVs.

“Some of the shops were shut down, causing a backlog,” she said.
