Business loyalty card helping to market local businesses

Becky Horsley has joined BoomerangDiscount.com, a business loyalty card program, as an account executive.

Horsley started working for Boomerang in early December. She also works for PORT Financial Services, Inc., which like Boomerang is headed by Robert Tassone.

Tassone said Boomerang has offices at Hartfield and in the Oyster Point section of Newport News, having relocated the latter office from Tidemill Center, Gloucester Point.

The premise is that locally owned businesses gain extra exposure by offering discounts on a loyalty card, for which a company pays a fee or which an individual can also purchase. Each discount can be used over and over for a one-year period.

Tassone said that Boomerang does not even talk to major department stores and national chain restaurants. Instead it focuses marketing efforts on the smaller, local businesses that often don’t have large marketing and advertising budgets. Discounts are offered at a number of businesses on the Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck and Peninsula, and the program has recently expanded to South Hampton Roads.
