Riverside Walter Reed Hospital will hold its inaugural Tree of Lights Gala from 7 p.m. until midnight next Friday, Dec. 2, at the Abingdon Ruritan Club, 8784 Guinea Road, Bena.

Angie Healy, director of marketing and public relations for Walter Reed, said that all proceeds from the evening will benefit the RWRH Make a Difference Fund J. Doswell Dutton Family Care Center Capital Campaign.

The evening’s activities will include a cocktail reception, a dinner catered by Gidi Gourmet, and dancing to the music of Crazy X Band. Cocktail attire will be appropriate for the event, she said. "Be dazzled and take a chance on winning one of the many beautifully decorated Christmas Trees that will be on display during the evening."

Becky McCoy of Mathews, chair of the Make A Difference Fund Steering Committee, said the family center will tie in with the hospital’s "mission of providing exceptional health care right here at home."

The family center, which is expected to be under construction in early 2012, will "create a warm and welcoming waiting area for the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit," Healy said.

Unlike past Walter Reed holiday tree events, Healy said this one will be more geared to the public. Since the family center will be used by the public, the gala will help raise money to open the center, which will provide a place for respite while family members spend extended periods at Walter Reed to be near their loved ones who are patients there.
