An Entrepreneur Express workshop to help local business owners prosper will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Hampton Inn, Gloucester.

Douglas Meredith, Gloucester’s economic development director, said the EDA is sponsoring the event with the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce. "EE," as the program is often called, will be an opportunity for businessmen to meet state development leaders who will offer tips that could make a business more profitable.

Kathy Dolan of the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will moderate the program and speak about the agency’s services. DBA promotes economic growth in the commonwealth by helping businesses to prosper, Meredith said, by "connecting businesses to experts that can provide an overview in a classroom setting … (plus) provide long-term resources."

Other speakers will come from the following agencies:

—Hampton Roads Small Business Development Center, with several locations in Hampton Roads including one in Hampton, which provides assistance with business and financial planning;

—Virginia Extension Service, which provides program assistance in many areas, including a focus on making your business viable in the community;

—Virginia Tourism Corporation, which will have a representative at the program to talk about marketing your business, tools available, and the importance of a good website and how to use social media to reach your target market, and;

—SCORE: Counselors to America’s Small Business, a group of retired businessmen and corporate executives who "mentor the individual in their journey to business success," Meredith said.
