Photo: Chesapeake Bank teamed up again with area chambers of commerce to hold Shop Local Day on Saturday, encouraging residents of the Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck and Williamsburg to patronize their locally owned, independent stores and restaurants. Participating merchants displayed “The Buck Stays Here” decals and many of them had special sales and other attractions for shoppers. In Cattail’s, manager Carol Joyce, center, shows customers Cindy Smith, left, and Frosty Taylor some of the new items available at the Mathews Court House gift store. Cattail’s offered customers a 15 percent discount on all items Saturday. Shop Local is designed to raise awareness about the importance of local stores to the region’s economy.
