The Office Bar & Grille opened for business Monday at 17 Plaza, Ordinary.
Owner Wesley Bowen of Gloucester said he plans a grand opening from 11 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday. The opening will include live entertainment by Acoustic Therapy, a local duo of Bobby Thomas and Harley Barker.
Head chef Kristen Waters of Gloucester said that The Office is an upscale, Southern food restaurant, with most of the items served homemade. She said the menu will include shrimp and grits, fried pickles and okra, crab cakes, smoked pork barbecue, and build-your-own burgers with a wide selection of toppings including pineapple, blue cheese and jalapenos.
Bowen said The Office will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. The 2,400-square-foot building, which has housed several other restaurants in the past, seats about 90 diners, 80 in the dining room and 10 at the sit-down bar.
Bar manager Chrissie Shackelford of Gloucester said the eatery will feature a full-service bar stocked with 20 types of bottled beer, eight beers on tap, all types of liquor and a selection of wine.
Bowen will be one of three operations managers, along with his wife Candy and Jeff Brown of Gloucester. Bowen also is a firefighter/paramedic for York County, a position he’s held for nine years.
Bowen said this is a family restaurant, which has a staff of 20 full- and part-time workers. Mrs. Bowen said there is a children’s menu with chicken tenders, burger sliders and other taste treats for younger diners.
