Main Street Motors Art Gallery opened for business in early August at 320 Main Street, Mathews.

Owners Dennis and Lynn Gillikin of Mathews operate the gallery, which features their own art pieces and items from their personal art collection. The gallery is open whenever the "Open" sidewalk sign is out, Lynn said, or they will be happy to open at other times convenient for customers.

Dennis and Lynn said they have an eclectic collection. Among pieces for sale are original oils, acrylics, watercolors and pen/inks. Also, they have signed/numbered prints and etchings by other artists that are in the Gillikins’ personal collection—hand-hewn wood structured art, posters, photography, and vintage and antique furniture and other items.

Theirs is not a consignment shop or cooperative, Lynn said, nor do they plan to teach or provide art lessons there.

Besides a sales outlet, the Gillikins said they will use the showroom as a personal open studio where they can work on their individual art projects.

They plan to have exhibits for invited guests on occasion.
