Mobjack Bay Marina and Boatyard, located on Green Mansion Cove off the North River, is under new management for its boatyard.
Darlene Talbott, who has owned the facility at North since 1987, said that, as of June 1, Brett and Janice Cherry of York County became managers of the boatyard. Talbott still operates the adjacent marina.
Brett Cherry, a certified boat mechanic, has 30 years’ experience in boat repair and maintenance. He heads a boatyard staff that includes their son Shane, 25, of York County, and Mike Hendrix of Gloucester, who specializes in woodworking repairs. Janice Cherry is bookkeeper for their operation.
The boatyard includes a large shop, a 20-ton travel lift, a boat ramp, and a ship’s store. The store sells boat supplies and parts, gasoline and diesel (with Valve-tech additive), cold soft drinks and houses a small lending library. Besides performing many types of boat repair and routine maintenance, the Cherrys offer boat bottom painting using anti-fouling paints that are better for the environment than older paints.
