Yarn shop and weaving studio now open
Dirt Woman Fiber Arts, a retail yarn shop and weaving studio, opened for business in mid-May at 401 Main Street, Mathews.
Owner Becky McCoy held a grand opening for the shop May 23-24, with a drawing held for prizes.
McCoy said she has been interested in knitting and weaving for a number of years. The shop stocks many yarns, knitting supplies, hobby books and looms. In addition, McCoy can order supplies for knitting, crocheting and weaving, and make custom clothing for clients.
Among brands of yarn in stock are Cascade, Skacel and Louet, McCoy said, along with Dirt Woman and Henry’s Attic. “We are in negotiations to carry additional lines of yarns, particularly coned yarn for weavers,” she said, with updates to be posted on the website, http://www.dirtwomanfiberarts.com.
The store also stocks LeClerc looms and supplies. In addition, McCoy sells reconditioned used looms, which are repaired by her husband, Mark Merriner.
The shop includes McCoy’s weaving studio. She sells handwoven and handknit garments, accessories and household items. For commission pieces, McCoy allows the customer to pick colors, patterns and fibers for a one-of-a-kind handwoven item.
