Waffle house opens in Mathews Court House
Sunrise Pancake & Waffle House opened for business June 20 at 296 Mains Street in Mathews.
Hector Benitez Jr. of Port Haywood, owns the restaurant. His father, Hector Benitez Sr., is the manager.
Benitez Jr. also owns Mi Casa Azteca Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, located next to Sunrise. Benitez Sr. manages that restaurant, too.
Sunrise is open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week, Benitez Jr. said, with the full menu offered each day. The Sunrise Waffle has been a big hit, Benitez Jr. said, which is a waffle topped with bananas, apples, blueberries, strawberries and peaches.
The menu includes a large assortment of pancakes (with toppings such as bacon slices, fruit and nuts), all types of waffles, French toast (plain or with an assortment of toppings), omelets (eggs filled with vegetables and cheese), breakfast sandwiches, breakfast specials such as pork chops or T-bone steak with pancakes, and eggs served with corned beef hash, ham, scrapple or bacon.
