Suntiva explores expanding broadband into area

Sherry Hamilton | Posted on Jan 19, 2011 - 04:14 PM Printer Friendly View

Suntiva Communications, a rural broadband provider, is trying to determine if there’s enough market for its services in Gloucester and Mathews to invest in equipment for the two counties.

Bill Curtis, executive consultant to the company, said he has been working with Northern Neck Wireless Internet Services to form a strategic partnership to bring internet access to rural areas of the two counties.

In order to determine the amount of interest and to figure out which neighborhoods would be the most likely candidates for service, Suntiva is asking that interested businesses and residents pre-register from now until the end of January by visiting http://www.suntivacommunications.com There. is no obligation to purchase service, said Curtis.

Northern Neck Wireless has expressed an interest in expanding its services into Mathews and already offers service in three locations, but Curtis said NNW doesn’t currently have the capacity to continue to expand on its own. If Suntiva determines that there’s sufficient interest in the two counties, he said, the two companies will share towers, data poles and network engineers in order to provide service.
