New owner takes over Gloucester car wash

Bill Nachman | Posted on Dec 19, 2012 - 11:53 AM Printer Friendly View

JW’s Car Wash and Detail, located at the intersection of Main Street and Route 14 in Gloucester, will hold its grand opening Saturday.

The facility, which includes one automatic bay and four self-service bays, is open 24/7. But the special grand opening will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Owner Jeffrey Wine of Ware Neck said the grand opening will benefit several local non-profit organizations, with representatives from those groups manning the self-service bays that day. Wine will offer car washes in those bays for free, he said, but hopes that individuals will make generous donations to the non-profit groups. Also, refreshments from Chick-fil-A will be provided.

Wine owns the business and leases the location from the Fairfield Foundation, which owns the old Texaco station at the 17/14 Edgehill intersection that is being converted to an office and laboratory for that group.

Wine has made some improvements after taking over the car wash, and plans others. He has installed new neoprene brushes and uses high-grade chemicals for the automatic wash. He will add a tire cleaner soon.
