Navy had $13.5 billion in regional impact last year
The U.S. Navy had a direct economic impact of $13.5 billion in Hampton Roads in 2010, according to a report by the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission.
Using information from the Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, HRPDC indicated the Navy’s economic impact in the region was down $1.4 billion from 2009.
Total active duty Navy employment was 82,463 individuals, approximately 80 percent of the region’s active duty military. Last year, the Navy had 84 ships home ported in Hampton Roads, the report said, as well as 36 aircraft squadrons.
