Mexican restaurant to open soon in Mathews

Bill Nachman | Posted on Feb 27, 2013 - 12:00 PM Printer Friendly View

A new Mexican restaurant will open soon on Main Street in Mathews that will bring the county tastes from south of the border.

Mi Casa Azteca Mexican Restaurant & Cantina will open in mid-March in a building on Main Street at Brickbat Road that has housed several other restaurants in the past. It will seat about 90 people between its main dining room and the bar and adjacent seating to the rear.

Hector Benitez Jr. of Williamsburg, owns the restaurant. Scott Riley of Mathews and Massachusetts owns the building.

Benitez said he will have four employees, including his father Hector Sr., mother Anna, and his sister Keysi.

Benitez said that his family is from El Salvador, not Mexico. However, he said that the two countries’ cuisines are similar. Also, he and other family members have worked at other Mexican restaurants, including several in this region owned by relatives.

Mi Casa will feature lunch and dinner specials daily. The restaurant will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with all items made fresh daily.
