Mathews restaurant has a new owner

Bill Nachman | Posted on Dec 05, 2012 - 12:24 PM Printer Friendly View

Southwind Pizza, located on Church Street in Mathews Court House, is under new ownership. Dean Tsamouras of Yorktown, bought the building and the restaurant business on Nov. 21 from Ned and Dia Lawless of Mathews. After owning and operating Southwind for 12 years, Ned Lawless said they plan to travel and then return to Mathews to open another type of business.

Tsamouras said he plans to focus on what Southwind has become known for: its pizza, sandwiches and salads. In addition, he plans to use the freshest ingredients around to offer daily specials, such as turnip soup and mahi mahi which were featured recently.

Southwind will continue to offer a wide assortment of gourmet pizzas, Tsamouras said, including a large number of toppings such as fresh veggies, meats and herbs that are grown right at the restaurant, which seats about 60 people.

Fresh is the thing at Southwind, Tsamouras said, with soups, specialty dishes, burgers, sauces, breads and other dishes made on premises each day the business is open.

Tsamouras said he will expand operations, with extra evening hours. Also, he plans to continue the popular musical entertainment for which Southwind has become known.
