Harris & Co. to hold unique auction Sunday

Quinton Sheppard | Posted on Jan 25, 2012 - 10:56 AM Printer Friendly View
A unique auction will take place Sunday afternoon at Harris & Co. Auction House, Gloucester Point. It’s not every day one has the chance to buy a taxidermy lion or giraffe that looks like it came straight out of the African savanna. Ben Harris, who owns the business, said these and other rare items will be up for sale during the auction that is set to begin at 1 o’clock. "This is the most unique collection we’ve gotten in yet," Harris said. The items came from two area estates, and along with the taxidermy, include other African-themed décor and artwork such as an original oil painting of elephants and other plains animals. "The whole house (these items came from) was themed around hunting," Harris added. "It was very much like a lodge. The owners had very unique taste in what they decorated with." Sunday’s auction will include custom-built furniture, 80-plus mounts and more.
