Gloucester business representatives promote county at gubernatorial events

Two Gloucester business executives had the opportunity to promote the county last week to Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen.
 
Makalia Records, execu-tive director of the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, and Jen Christman, executive director of the Gloucester Main Street Association, were invited to attend a reception with the governor and the first lady last Thursday night at a new resort under construction in Middleburg. The next day, the local women visited three wineries as part of a tour organized by Mrs. McDonnell as part of her initiative to promote Virginia-based businesses.
 
The Gloucester Chamber will host a wine festival Oct. 27 at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, Ware Neck. Records said they were likely invited to attend the McDonnell event because of that connection.
 
Christman said she and Records didn’t actually have much “face time” with the governor and his wife. Approximately 200 people attended the reception, Christman said, adding that it’s important to promote Gloucester at every opportunity.

—Aug. 19, the chamber is trying to put together a team from its membership to participate in the Surf and Turf Soccer Tournament to benefit BayStars, which will be held at Woodville Park, Ordinary;
