Gateway Fitness, Ltd., opened in late July at York River Crossing Shopping Center, Hayes.

Owners Rob Thompson and Chris Myers operate an independent fitness studio. Membership in their independent facility allows clients 24/7 access without having to only work out when a staff member is present.

Thompson said Gateway emphasizes strength training. The studio, which members can access at any hour by entry on a keypad or with their thumbprint, includes an assortment of free weights and weight machines, Thompson said.

In addition, there are several treadmills and elliptical machines, plus an exercise bike.

The center is open for membership to men and women age 18 and older. Thompson said initial signup has been pretty good, with both male and female clients taking advantage of the six-month memberships.

Although there are no locker or shower facilities, he said the restrooms are very large and members can change there if they wish. They provide towel service.
