Business group presents recommendations to county board
Gloucester’s Business Development Focus Group, formed last year to consider issues related to businesses in the county, has finished meeting and presented its recommendations to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors during its May 21 meeting in the colonial courthouse.
Gloucester’s planning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz said the committee’s focus was on commercial development or matters related to businesses trying to start up or expand, improving existing businesses and other issues that typically trigger the site plan review process.
Since the committee started meeting, Ducey-Ortiz said several of its recommendations have been implemented, including the authorization of the county administrator to accept certain deeds. Also, the county’s site plan committee started meeting twice a month, instead of only once a month, to expedite the review process and improve turnaround time for review of site plan submittals.
Issues that still need to be addressed, according to the focus group, include the excessive landscaping requirement by the county’s Highway Corridor Overlay District ordinance. The committee suggested that the county review and revise that ordinance, which will require additional staff time.
