Bellamy business celebrates 65th anniversary

Quinton Sheppard | Posted on Mar 20, 2013 - 11:15 AM Printer Friendly View

A Bellamy business is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year. Herbert Clements & Sons, Inc., Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning was started in 1947 by the late Herbert Clements and is now owned by his two sons, Frankie and J.D. Clements.

Herbert Clements worked part time handling plumbing and heating repairs until the early 1960s when he left his government job to pursue the business full time, according to J.D.

Frankie started in 1973 and currently serves as the president and treasurer of the business, while J.D., who came on board a couple of years later, in 1975, is vice president and secretary of the business.

Since its beginning, J.D. said the company has called Bellamy its home and still has an office located on Belroi Road.

When his dad started the business, he was using one employee. When Frankie came on full-time, he increased to four employees. Since 1975, Herbert Clements & Sons has employed eight people.

The business has transformed in other ways as customer needs have adjusted. For example, J.D. said his dad did primarily plumbing and oil- fired burner services up until 1973. The business expanded to service heat pumps and air conditioning units in 1978. Since the beginning, he said the business has performed water treatment services.
