Anthem Virginia working to improve efficiency, King says
Anthem Virginia, a large health insurance provider, is working hard to "put the pieces together" for a more efficient health care delivery system," Virginia president C. Burke King said at a Chamber of Commerce program in Gloucester May 23.
"We have a very fragmented delivery system," King, a Gloucester native, said of health care in America. Anthem is working to improve patient care and the access its clients have to physicians, he said.
An important component of a national health care plan, King said, is providing a means for better coordination of services. Anthem already is working toward that goal by pushing for an increased use of electronic records, allowing better tracking of a patient’s health profile.
Besides pushing for better access to care, King said Anthem has taken strides to cut health care costs where possible. One way to hold the line on costs, he said, is by getting more physicians to align with major health care providers instead of trying to operate independently—perhaps at a greater cost.
